These Irish and Scottish “kissing cousins” meet at half-past summer each year to play a spirited game across the Thirty-Two Counties of Ireland Chess Board. Toadstool Castles guard the gateway to Tír na nÓg, the Land of Eternal Youth. A warm “Fáilte” greets all who dare to play.
Sean the Knight carries a shamrock and shillelagh to defend against those who insist on growing up too soon.
Fergal the Bishop holds his book of fairy tales, guiding players with stories of hope and faith.
Brian the King, seated on his throne with gold at his side, decides which county to conquer next – though some welcomes may be warmer than others!
Maeve the Queen, crowned with shamrocks and carrying her magical harp, truly rules the board – even if Brian thinks otherwise.
Paddy the Pawn perches on a shamrock leaf with shillelagh in hand, wondering when the game will finally begin.

Crafted with care, the set is as much a conversation piece as it is a game. Even non-chess players are enchanted by its whimsical design and storytelling spirit. Made in the Boyne Valley by our friend Philip at O Gowna Studios. Philip’s skills as a Craftsman and as a Storyteller are both in evidence here.
